About this race
The Internationaler Hochfellnberglauf is a short, steep mountain race in Bergen, Germany. Runners ascend from 600 meters to a high point of 1,674 meters over 8.9 kilometers. Ski-Club Bergen e.V. organizes this event, which has been held continuously for decades since its first running in 1972. It is Germany’s oldest mountain race, a World Cup event, and attracts a strong international field, not just local hill runners.
The course is primarily off-road, with approximately 90 percent on unpaved trails. Success depends on climbing strength, trail footing, and mountain-race pacing rather than road speed. The weekend follows a straightforward club-race schedule: Saturday includes bib pickup and a pasta party, with bib presentation for top-ranked participants. Sunday features late registration at the Hochfelln cable-car valley station, followed by the race and an afternoon awards ceremony. Prize money is awarded, yet the event retains the character of a long-standing alpine club tradition.
