About this race
The Selketallauf begins and ends at the Meisdorf sports field, located in the Harz region. Runners are directed into the Selke valley via forest paths. This local running event offers races for children, beginners, Nordic walkers, and experienced hill runners. Options include short children's races of 500m and 1000m, a 6km loop along the Selke, a 10km middle route, and longer courses featuring difficult terrain and climbs. SV Germania Meisdorf organizes the event, which is also part of the Harzer Laufcup series, aiming to identify runners capable of various race styles, from quick sprints to challenging mountain sections.
The 6km route traces the Selke nature trail to the Thalmühle and back. The 10km route extends further into the valley before returning to Meisdorf. The less challenging routes lack significant ascents, making them appropriate for novice runners and walkers. The primary long course passes through locations like Selkemühle, Bauernwiese, Trift, and Neuer Weg. It includes a strenuous 2km climb from Selkemühle to Hohe Warte, where a refreshment station is available. The field of participants is often small and diverse, with runners historically ranging from children to individuals in their eighties. Age-group awards extend to fourth place, with prizes including trophies, merchandise, and complimentary entries for the subsequent year.
