About this race
Silvesterlauf an der Leine Hannover is a New Year's Eve road run in Hannover, starting at 1 PM from the Hannoverscher Radsportclub clubhouse on Weddigenufer near the university sports area. The main race is a 7.7 km loop on mostly asphalt paths, suitable for casual runners yet a proper end-of-year effort. The event typically draws several hundred participants, with recent fields around the high hundreds, and it also includes a walking category.
The route begins and ends at the HRC clubhouse, following a compact loop by the Leine instead of a long point-to-point course. It is one of two New Year's Eve runs in Hannover, the other taking place at the Maschsee. The organizers characterize it as a cozy mulled-wine-and-bratwurst run, reflecting its atmosphere: participants come to race, walk, conclude the running year, and socialize afterward rather than treating it as a standard road event.
