About this race
Andalucía Desafío Doñana is a long-distance triathlon on Spain’s Atlantic coast, centered near Sanlúcar de Barrameda in Cádiz, Andalucía. Typically held in early October, its format is direct yet demanding: 1.4 km swimming, 97 km road cycling, and a 21 km road run. Sand and coastline define the race’s character, distinguishing it from a typical city-road triathlon.
The event is situated beside Doñana National Park, with activities also connected to Matalascañas, a coastal town near the park. The series is managed by Andalucía’s Ministry of Culture and Sport and has reached at least its fifteenth edition. The combination of sea swimming, road cycling distance, half-marathon run, and sandy coastal terrain provides a distinct character compared to flatter, exclusively urban long-course triathlons.
