About this race
The ICAN Triathlon takes place in mid-October in Gandia, located on Spain’s Valencia coast. It offers races ranging from short distances to a full iron-distance event. The full race includes a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km cycle, and a 42.195 km marathon run. The half distance consists of a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km cycle, and a 21.1 km run. The short race features a 1.5 km swim, a 41.4 km cycle, and a 7 km run. Aquabike options are also available for those preferring a swim-and-bike format.
The event utilizes Gandia’s varied terrain, incorporating its beach, city streets, and adjacent natural areas, differentiating it from a typical closed sports park course. The full-distance race is structured with repeated loops: two for the swim, four for the bike, and six for the run. The half distance follows a similar loop structure with one swim lap, two bike laps, and three run laps. ICAN has been hosted in Gandia for over ten years, marking it as the first long-distance triathlon in the Comunidad Valenciana. The participants include athletes competing in full, half, and short distances, as well as aquabike formats. A previous participant in the half-distance event commended the organization but suggested improvements for the English briefing.
