Trail du Lou Bruniquel is a trail-running series held in May in Bruniquel, located in France’s Tarn-et-Garonne department. Established by the Trail du Lou association in 2019, it features hilly off-road courses instead of flat road races. The event provides various formats, from short trail and Nordic walking routes to challenging mountain-style runs. The primary options include courses of approximately 10-12 km, 21 km, 29-30 km, and 37 km. The longer distances involve significant elevation gain; one 37.7 km course specifies 1,965 m of positive elevation.
The race has rapidly secured a significant position in local trail running. It is the sole trail race in the department officially recognized by the French Athletics Federation, and its organizers have hosted departmental or regional championships five times across seven editions. Participation typically numbers several hundred runners, with recent events nearing 600 finishers. The course names and descriptions contribute to the event's rugged, spirited character: Trail Alpha is described as a 30 km “leg-breaker,” Trail Beta serves as the balanced mid-distance choice, and the 9 km Nordic walk or hike crosses the Loubéjac hills. An additional demanding 24-hour solo format utilizes a 37 km loop with 2,010 m of climbing, requiring mandatory equipment, offering aid stations, and providing timing every 3 km with Live Trail tracking.
