The Triathlon des Neiges de Montgenèvre is a high-altitude winter multisport event held in Montgenèvre, located in France’s Hautes-Alpes department near the Italian border. Taking place in mid-March, it focuses on snow racing instead of the typical swim-bike-run structure. Participants compete in running and skiing segments, with options for either a triathlon or duathlon format, including individual and relay entries. The race is known as “the triathlon that slides,” reflecting a competition where snow, mountain terrain, and cold-weather equipment are integral to the challenge.
The event features four distinct races: two triathlon formats (M and S) and two snow duathlons. The duathlons combine trail running with either ski mountaineering or cross-country skiing. All races operate under semi-autonomy, meaning athletes must manage their own energy and gear between designated aid stations, which have time limits and cut-off points. TEAM HIGH TRAIL BRIANCON organizes the event with an emphasis on environmental responsibility. The course crosses sensitive mountain environments, and penalties are imposed for littering outside aid stations. Straying from the marked route or cutting trails is prohibited.
