About this race

Cardiff Pentath-Run is a two-day event in Cardiff where runners complete a marathon distance over five separate races. The total distance covered is 42.2 km, accumulated over the weekend of the August Bank Holiday. The races take place in Bute Park, Pontcanna Fields, and Llandaff Fields, with the final standings determined by each runner’s combined time from all five events. The weekend begins with a 5 km parkrun and a 10 km race. This is followed by a half marathon, a one-mile race, and a 4.5 km cross-country race. The format requires more than just endurance; runners must recover between starts, adapt to different race distances, and be prepared for the cross-country finale late on the second day. Cardiff Running Events maintains a low entry cost, excluding finisher medals or T-shirts from the standard fee. Prizes are awarded to top male, female, and age-group competitors. Participants receive route maps beforehand but are expected to navigate the courses independently. A cut-off time of 2 hours 45 minutes for the half marathon is in place to ensure the subsequent races remain on schedule. The CPR originated as a new event following an initial trial, and its stop-start pentathlon structure distinguishes it from a typical city marathon.
