About this race
LSD Back Yard Ultra is a last-runner-standing race held at West Benridge Farm near Morpeth in Northumberland. It adheres to the official Backyard Ultra format: each hour, on the hour, participants begin a 4.167-mile (6.7 km) loop. They must complete the loop within 60 minutes to be ready for the next hour's start. Failing to begin the next lap results in disqualification. There is no predetermined finish distance; the event continues until a single runner completes a final lap solo.
The course consists of farmland tracks, woodland trails, and open paths, featuring moderate elevation and a design prioritizing runnability over technicality. Each loop concludes at a central race village, providing a space for rest, nutrition, gear changes, and preparation for the subsequent start. The format emphasizes pacing, consistency, recovery, and endurance alongside speed. The victor receives the Last Standing title, while all other participants are marked as DNF regardless of completed loops, contributing to the race's distinct and challenging character.
