Recurring 10K races near Chania

Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

10ος Ημιμαραθώνιος Παλαιόχωρας
SUN OCT 18
All races start and finish in Paleochora, Chania. The program offers runners four options: a half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, and a children's race. It is scheduled for autumn, three weeks before the Authentic Athens Marathon, serving as a tune-up for runners preparing for Athens. The Paleochora Runners Association organizes the event, now in its ninth edition. The half marathon route is gently rolling with 100 meters of elevation gain; the 10 km has 50 meters and the 5 km has 25 meters. The shorter races and children's run offer more than just a single 21.1 km event. Half marathon results are divided by gender and by age groups: up to 45 and 46-plus. Recent top results indicate a predominantly Greek field, with participants from clubs including OFI, Arkalos, TRT Paleochora, Vitsentzos Kornaros, and SDY Chania. Winning times for the half marathon are approximately 1:18.
Sfakia Aradena Trail 2026
SAT OCT 24
The Sfakia Aradena Trail is a 10.5 km race held in Anopoli, Chania, Crete. Beginning in the afternoon, it offers runners 480 metres of elevation gain, presenting a short race with significant mountain effort rather than a simple fun run. The Arkalos Team organizes the event, with an entry fee of €20. The route crosses the Aradena Gorge twice and includes a visit to the abandoned village of Aradena. It utilizes restored old Kalderimi cobblestone paths, with some sections bordering the gorge's edge where red rock walls ascend nearly vertically alongside the path.

About 10K races in Chania

Chania Base Miles

Chania hosts 2 10K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals keep the easy stuff close to the water, then go inland when the legs want work. The flat route runs 87 km and gains 107 m. The harder route runs 72 km and climbs 387 m, so it works for long steady miles. Eleftherios Venizelos and Kydon give the city proper club gravity. Crete Marathon starts and finishes at the National Sports Center. Trail runners use Chania Trail Event, Imbros Trail Run, Sfakia Sky Marathon, and Sfakia Vertical Run as anchor race days.

Riders usually roll from Kato Stalos when they want a proper day out. The ascent through the Theriso Gorge has a winding road carved into steep cliffs, shaded by plane trees. Omalos Plateau sits at about 1,200 m, so the climbs feel real fast. The Kato Stalos - Theriso - Zourva - Meskla - Fournes - Kato Stalos route runs about 80 km and gains 1,500 m. The 160 km Kato Stalos - Kandanos - Paleochora - Koustogerako - Floria - Kato Stalos route works as a gran fondo day. Chania’s bike calendar is more route-led than race-led.

February to April and September to November are the clean months for Z2, climbing blocks, and long runs. Summer brings sunny dry days, and temperatures can rise above 35°C, so locals start early and keep intervals short. Etesian winds keep strong heat waves above 38°C from being very common. Mountain sections can have few water refill points, so riders plan the bottles before Omalos, Theriso, or Zourva. Winter stays mild and rainy near the coast. Snow and frost are rare near Chania, and sunny intervals still leave room for base miles and steady rides.
