About this race

Run Rome The Marathon is an annual road marathon in Rome, typically held in spring. It begins at the Fori Imperiali and concludes on Via dei Fori Imperiali. This race has been a fixture in the city’s running schedule since 1982. It is part of a larger race weekend that also features the ACEA RUN4ROME relay and a 5K Fun Run on Saturday. The Expo Village is located at Circo Massimo, near a Metro B station, and admission to the expo is complimentary. The marathon employs several start waves, and its program includes a separate start for wheelchair participants and pushers. The course showcases numerous Roman landmarks, passing the Circus Maximus and running close to the Colosseum before finishing on the imperial road. The race has twice hosted the Italian Marathon Championships. A special millennium edition commenced in Saint Peter’s Square, using the basilica’s bells as the starting signal. Another edition commemorated Abebe Bikila’s Olympic marathon victory in Rome; the men’s winner finished barefoot as a tribute. The participants include international elites, club runners, charity participants, relay teams, and those enjoying the entire Rome weekend. Finisher shirts, the Vittoria mascot, and the #RunLikeAGladiator tag contribute to the event’s distinct traditions.
