About this race

The Waikato River Trails form the core of this race, with the course traversing "native bush, forest, wetlands" and keeping the Waikato River nearby, making the water a constant presence. The Taniwha is part of the Roam Free Trail Series, offering a mixed-discipline trail event where runners, walkers, bikers, e-bikers, and duathletes share the paths, "exploring the full beauty of the Waikato River Trails." Underfoot conditions will include singletrack, gravel trail, and boardwalk sections, with passages "along lake and river views" instead of flat roads. The event attracts a diverse group by presenting its options as "achievable challenges for all ages and fitness levels." All finishers receive medals in a "friendly, scenic environment."
