About this race
The Independence Run in Żagań is one of the largest and most patriotic running events in the Lubusz Voivodeship, attracting hundreds of runners each year. Participants will run a fast, certified 10 km course through the picturesque streets of the city and the alleys of a historic park. The November date offers invigorating coolness, ideal for setting personal records. The encouragement from locals and soldiers of the local armored division creates a solemn atmosphere. The city is easily accessible by car or train from Zielona Góra, Żary, or Wrocław. After crossing the finish line and receiving a commemorative medal, visitors can explore Żagań's historical and architectural attractions. These include the palace and park complex, featuring a baroque princely palace surrounded by one of Poland's most beautiful romantic parks. The Museum of Prisoner of War Camps, located on the site of the former Stalag Luft III, showcases the city's wartime history, including a model of the tunnel from the "Great Escape." The former Augustinian monastery complex houses a baroque church and a historical library with globes belonging to astronomer Johannes Kepler. After the November race, enjoy a festive meal, with local restaurants offering traditional roasted goose, homemade pierogi, or hearty żurek soup. Participants are encouraged to wear white and red to celebrate independence.
