Running: Locals keep the easy miles close to the Skellefte River. The river runs through the middle of town, and the track follows both sides, so the 7km, 10km, and 13km loops work well for Z2, intervals, or a steady long run. Nordanå cultural area gives you a central start by the water. Rovön gives you a quieter forest feel near town. Rovön gives you 7km, 12km, and 21km options. You can run 7km, 6km, 12km, and 21km loops there.
Cycling: Locals ride Vitberget when they want dirt close to home. Skellefteå Bike Arena sits near Vitberget’s peak, a few kilometers from central Skellefteå, and Skellefteå AIK cykel is the main operator. The arena gives you a pump-track, dirt-track, and three MTB loops that run from 600 to 1000 meters. Bygdsiljum Bike Park covers the downhill side. Lövånger gives longer marked spins, with Brown Trail, Bölerundan at 18 km and Black trail, Blackerundan at 28 km. The old Varuträsk road suits base miles. Falkträsket and Flocktjärn hold the hilly country road.
Season: Summer gives Skellefteå warm days for a coastal city this far north. June gives long days and a lot of sunshine, so locals stretch rides late and keep river runs easy when the legs need it. The river in summer can feel lined with raspberry bushes bursting with fruit. Late summer brings the wetter spell, so gravel, singletrack, and road rides need a little more judgement. Winter changes the whole rhythm. The river track can turn into cross-country ski track, and the forest sections shift from running loops to snow-covered base work.
