Girona Base Miles
Girona hosts 10 Half Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.
Locals run straight from the city centre, because you can be running in these trails within minutes of leaving the city walls. The city centre uses Devesa park and the Ter, Onyar, Galligants, and Güell rivers for easy Z2. Sisterhood Running Club meets every Wednesday at 7pm at the Fontajau Pavilion and runs 5 to 10km, then goes longer on Sundays through the city and its surroundings. Cursa de la Dona Girona gives the 5km crowd an anchor. Cursa de la Dona Girona also has a 6km option, and Oxfam Intermón Trailwalker Girona goes all the way to 100km.
Locals ride out fast, and the roads turn quiet before the legs even settle. Girona plain routes sit south of town for base miles, while the Empordà Plain pulls you east through medieval villages and toward the Costa Brava. GEiEG gives the local club scene a name, and the professional peloton still feels close here. La CicloBrava runs 70, 100, and 140km, while LaTramun, Mugada, Cims de Girona - Els Àngels, Gironès MTB Challenge, Sgrail 100, and Gran Fondo Lloret-Costa Brava keep the calendar sharp. Els Àngels, Rocacorba mountain, Sant Hilari, Mare de Déu del Mont, and Vallter 2000 hold the climbs.
March to May and October to November are the best months for steady cycling in Girona, and runners get the same sweet window for intervals, trails, and long Sundays. April and May have been historically wet months, but locals still train around the forecast. Summer gives up to 15 hours of daylight, so locals ride early in the morning and keep harder running away from the heat. Winter changes the clock more than the habit, because locals ride in the middle of the day, runners use the dry spells, December and January still give at least 9 hours of daylight, and January or February can hit high teens Celsius at midday.
