About Half Marathon races in Belfast

Belfast Training Notes

Belfast hosts 5 Half Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Belfast runners get good miles once they leave the stop-start city centre. Locals use the River Lagan, Botanic Gardens, Ormeau Park, Waterworks, Victoria Park, Stormont, Belfast Castle and Belvoir Park Forest for routine jogs, intervals and Z2 days. The Lagan River Run starts at the Big Fish statue and gives you 2 kilometres before you stretch it towards Titanic or Ormeau Park. Ormeau Park gives Belfast Running Club its home base, with Tuesday sessions at 6:30 PM in the Ormeau area and Thursday sessions at 6:30 PM around different spots. Belfast City Marathon and Belfast City Half Marathon sit as the anchor races.

Belfast riders keep plenty close to town. Locals ride the Lagan Towpath for a relaxed spin, use Comber Greenway for base miles, and take the Lagan and Lough Cycle Way between Lisburn, Belfast and Jordanstown when they want traffic-free rhythm. Titanic Quarter Cycling Club runs Wednesday laps at 18:30, fast hilly rides at 18:30, Saturday groups, and a Sunday Scone Run at 09:30. The climb covers 2 km with 702 m of ascent. The Big Italian Bike Ride works as the gran fondo anchor.

April and May suit Belfast best for both running and riding. Summer temperatures rarely push above 20°C, and the solstice gives sunrise before 05:00 and sunset after 22:00, so locals can fit intervals, crit practice, singletrack or a long Z2 spin around work. Winter temperatures rarely dip below 0°C, but sunrise sits around 08:45 and sunset lands before 16:00 at the solstice. Back roads get mucky and slippy, Barnett Demesne still has green and blue trail options, and the cold wet days can still be enjoyable when the kit is right.
