Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

Weston Super Half
SUN OCT 4
The Weston Super Half concludes on Weston-super-Mare’s Grand Pier, a distinctive feature distinguishing it from typical seaside half marathons. This autumn half marathon centers on Marine Parade in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, and includes shorter races like the Community Mile and a Fun Run alongside the main event. The course crosses the Weston coastline via closed roads, incorporates a segment on the beach, and passes through a nature reserve. Participants are treated to open sea views before reaching the pier for the finish. The event utilizes chip timing, retains historical results, and attracts charity runners, such as those fundraising for the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity with their "Make your seconds count" initiative.

SAT NOV 7
RACE THE LIGHT CLASSIC
SAT NOV 28
Race The Light Classic is centered on Fantastic Light, a Kentucky-bred Thoroughbred who competed internationally from the late 1990s to the early 2000s. Foaled in the United States, he was trained in England and Dubai, racing under Maktoum Al Maktoum's ownership before joining Godolphin. His career was notably global, with races in seven countries and victories in top-tier Group One or Grade I events in five. Fantastic Light debuted at Sandown, winning a minor stakes race after appearing green early. His most significant victories included the Dubai Sheema Classic, Man o' War Stakes, Hong Kong Cup, Tattersalls Gold Cup, Prince of Wales's Stakes, Irish Champion Stakes, and Breeders' Cup Turf. He concluded his career with 25 starts, achieving 12 wins, 5 second-place finishes, and 3 thirds, accumulating over $8.4 million. His peak year saw him secure titles in both Europe and the United States, and his competition with Galileo provided a distinct narrative to his career beyond just a record of major wins.
Community Canal Run
MON DEC 28
The Community Canal Run is a free, untimed run along the canal between Bridgwater and Taunton. It offers a 14-mile route and a shorter 7.5-mile option. While not a race against the clock, registration is required for planning and insurance purposes. The main route begins at the YMCA in Bridgwater, following the off-road tow path beside the canal and River Tone to COACH in French Weir Park, Taunton. The 7.5-mile option starts at Maunsel Lock. Participants can run, jog, or walk. There are no medals or aid stations; runners are advised to use the cafes along the route, such as Purple Spoon, Maunsel Lock Tea Rooms, and The Weir. Channel Events organizes the event with Taunton Running Club. Apex Medical and Rescue provides support. Donations are encouraged for the Canal and River Trust, which waived the licence fee.
Exeter Half Marathon 2027 + Riverside 5 Miles
SAT FEB 6
The Exeter Half Marathon is a 13.1-mile race organized by the Exeter City Community Trust, usually held on a weekend in February. It shares the schedule with the Riverside 5 Miles, an 8.1km event. Both races start from the Piazza Terracina near the Quayside. The half marathon course uses a lap format, with descriptions varying between two or three loops. Organizers have previously altered the route at short notice due to flooding on the standard path.
Exeter Half Marathon
SAT FEB 6
The Exeter Half Marathon is a 13.1-mile road race held in Exeter, Devon. It begins at 10:00 am from Piazza Terracina on Haven Road. The race features a two-lap format, meaning participants complete the half-marathon distance over two circuits instead of a single point-to-point course. The route winds through Exeter's historic quayside and circles Riverside Valley Park, staying near the river for most of the race. Verified chip timing is used, and Catherine White is the organiser. Published results from previous editions indicate this is an established local event.
Portland Coastal Marathon
SUN FEB 14
The Portland Coastal Marathon is a February trail race held on the South West Coast Path near Portland, offering marathon, half marathon, and 10k distances. It is a self-navigation event; runners must download the GPX file beforehand and follow it using their own device. The terrain is exposed, the route is neither flat nor fast, and the race is suited for those seeking a challenging early-season test rather than a rapid road time. The marathon course circles the island twice, with the sea on the left during the first loop and on the right for the second. The half marathon and 10k follow single-loop sections of the same coastal path. No route markers are provided, checkpoints verify completion of the full course, and taking shortcuts results in disqualification. All finishers receive a unique Portland Coastal medal, and the top three male and female athletes in each distance category are awarded trophies.
Taunton Half Marathon and Kids Kilometre 2027
SUN FEB 28
The Taunton Half Marathon is a road race held in Taunton, starting and finishing in the town centre near the Market House. The main event begins at 10:00 with a four-hour time limit. The Kids Kilometre follows at 10:15, using the same start and finish points. All participants in both races will receive a medal. The half marathon has been a fixture for almost 40 years. New directors, supported by the previous organisers, now manage the event. It caters to various runners, including first-timers, those aiming for personal bests, and elite competitors, with awards for age categories from Open to V70 for both men and women. The new team, with experience in trail events, aims to maintain the road race format while fostering a stronger community atmosphere. The closed town centre provides a good viewing area for spectators, and course sections historically see local support cheering runners on.
Taunton Half Marathon
SUN FEB 28
The Taunton Half Marathon is a road race held in Taunton town centre. The main event begins in the morning, with a Kids Kilometre fun run taking place shortly afterward. Race headquarters, the start, and the finish are all located in the town centre. Runners complete the course along North Street, with the Market House visible as they approach the finish. The town centre is closed to traffic during the event, enhancing spectator viewing and runner safety. The race has been a fixture on the local running scene for almost 40 years. It attracts participants ranging from individuals running their first half marathon to club runners aiming for personal bests and elite athletes competing for victory. Sections of the route benefit from enthusiastic local support, as residents line the course to encourage runners during challenging miles. New race directors, who have experience with trail events, are now managing the race. Their goal is to maintain the polish of a traditional road race while fostering a greater sense of community. The Kids Kilometre shares the same start and finish lines as the main race, and all participants in both events receive a medal.

About Half Marathon races in Exeter

Exeter Training Notes

Exeter hosts 16 Half Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals use the River Exe, Exeter Quayside, Riverside Valley Park, and Exeter Ship Canal when they want flat base miles or quick intervals. Exeter Riverside parkrun starts on Bromhams Field and keeps the effort honest on shared tarmac, gravel, and fields. Killerton parkrun gives you a one-lap multi-terrain loop across open parkland, woodland, and working farmland near Broadclyst. Front Foot Exeter Run Club meets Thursdays from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at Haven Banks Car Park. Exeter Harriers trains Tuesdays and Thursdays at Exeter Arena. South West Road Runners and Greenbow Running Club keep the week social. Exeter 10K River Run, Run Exe 5k, Exeter Autumn Half Marathon, Green Lantern, and Exeter Half Marathon are the anchor races.

Locals ride the Exe Estuary Trail when they want clean Z2 and a route that runs between Exeter and Exmouth or out toward Dawlish Warren. The trail runs 7 miles one way, and trains make the return simple. The Granite Way follows the former Southern Region railway line, and Okehampton to Lydford gives you an 18-mile round trip after the train from Exeter. Exeter Wheelers Cycling Club carries the serious club scene, with road racing, 10-mile time trials, crits, an open hill climb in September, and South West Cyclo-cross links. The climbs sit in the hilly Wednesday nights and the shorter, hillier Saturday Social rides.

July gives Exeter its best shot at summer training, with warm, changeable days and enough light for evening intervals, chain gang work, or longer Quayside runs. Summer also suits the flat Exe work, the Exmouth or Dawlish Warren rides, and steady marathon laps through Exwick and St Thomas. November brings the wettest month, and winter turns the city toward mild, wet miles with short colder spells. Runners keep using lit routes, Riverside Valley Park, and club sessions. Exeter Wheelers shifts Thursday race training toward swift tempo in winter, while Sunday Club Runs still roll every week in 14-16 mph, 16-18 mph, and 18-20 mph groups.
