St Albans Half Marathon

The St Albans Half Marathon starts and finishes in Verulamium Park, using one of the city’s main green spaces as its base. This UKA certified 13.1-mile road race in St Albans has an entry limit of 3,600 for the main half marathon. The event also provides a 10K, 5K, Fun Run, Walking Half Marathon, and a separate wheelchair half marathon, catering to various types of participants. Half marathon entrants must finish within 3 hours 15 minutes, and wheelchair entrants have a 3 hour 30 minute limit. The route leaves the park for country lanes, featuring some hills rather than a flat city loop. It is fully marshalled with professional medical cover along the course, and the event is wheelchair friendly. ATW organises the event, and entries close before race day, with no same-day sign-ups. Finishers receive a medal and an ice lolly, a local tradition at the finish line. The top three men and top three women in the half marathon receive podium medals, and marshals add personality by dressing in fancy dress along the route.

Race For Life St Albans

Race For Life St Albans takes place in Verulamium Park, St Albans, offering 3K, 5K, and 10K distances. As part of the Race For Life series, the event aims to raise funds for cancer research alongside the running competition. The start and finish lines are located on the grass adjacent to Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre, postcode AL1 2DL. The course primarily runs on grass, featuring some inclines rather than a flat road-race profile. The 10K event consists of two laps of the 5K route. The 3K option provides a shorter distance suitable for families, walkers, and less experienced runners participating in the same event. Participants can collect donations via GoFundMe. This St Albans race is part of the broader Race For Life series across Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, and Hertfordshire.

Watford Training Notes

Running: Cassiobury Park is the local running hub, and the ATW Watford Half Marathon & 10K starts from Cassiobury Park Avenue on 07/02/2027. Watford Joggers gives you the reliable rhythm, with Wednesday Social Club Run at 6:45pm, Sunday Social Run at 9:20am in the Gade Avenue car park, and Tuesday intervals from 7pm to 8pm. Watford Harriers Athletics Club keeps the sharp end honest at Woodside Stadium. The Watford 10k route brings trails and hills in Cassiobury Park, and the Watford Half route says early that this wasn’t going to be an easy one.

Cycling: Watford riding starts easy through the town centre, then rolls out through National Cycle Routes 6 and 61, Ebury Way, Abbey Way, and the Green Loop. The Green Loop runs 5 miles around the town centre and links Watford Junction to Cassiobury Park. The North Watford to Aldenham lake loop gives you 12 miles in about 2 hours at a steady pace, takes you on quiet lanes through Wall Hall and Aldenham Village, and uses Bridleway 54 through some woodland. Watford Velo Sport brings road racing, CX, time trialling, hill climbing, and MTB, with Sunday rides meeting at 08:15 for an 08:30 roll-out.

Season: April, May, June, July, August, and September are the best months, and summer makes Cassiobury Park, Ebury Way, and the Green Loop feel like proper base miles territory. The 5km water station means locals keep the legs ready for uneven ground. Winter turns the Watford Half into the anchor test, with a 10:30am start and three water stations on a hilly route. Watford Joggers makes the dark January night easier, and Watford Velo Sport keeps the Sunday Z2 rolling through different groups and paces.
