5th Annual Purple Light Project 5K
SAT OCT 3
The Purple Light Project 5K begins at the IOL Campus on Retreat Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut. The main 5K race starts in the morning, following registration and a free single-circuit Fun Run for children 10 and under. This community 5K is connected to behavioral health support and is open to youth and adult runners. Fast Track Timing will professionally time the event. The race generates funds for Purple Light Project patients. Every dollar from the 5K directly supports practical needs, including food vouchers, transportation, winter clothing, hygiene items, and comfort items for individuals in treatment. Awards will be presented to male, female, and non-binary runners across various age groups. Participants will also receive race shirts and reusable water bottles.
Westover Run the Runway 2026
SAT OCT 3
Friends of the poor 5k
SAT OCT 3
The Friends of the Poor 5K begins at the New Ipswich Congregational Church on Main Street in New Ipswich, New Hampshire, on a fall Saturday morning. It provides a timed 5K run and a 5K walk, both scheduled from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. The run requires an adult entry fee and has a reduced youth price, while the walk is free. The course is a 5K planned to showcase peak fall foliage, and the event is intended for families as well as runners. All proceeds benefit the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to assist in feeding local families, and sponsor pledges are encouraged. Early registrants receive shirts; runners get a long-sleeve wicking shirt, and walkers receive a T-shirt. Following the race, attendees can remain for a prize raffle.
Davis Hill Dragon Dash
SUN OCT 4
The Davis Hill Dragon Dash is an annual 5K road race held at Davis Hill Elementary School in Holden. It is structured as a school-community event, welcoming runners, walkers, strollers, and leashed dogs on the course. The race benefits the Davis Hill School PTA, with funds directed to student programs like science enrichment and classroom supplies. This marks the 11th year for the event, which also offers local businesses opportunities for sponsorship, including mile-marker placements.
Keene Family YMCA Fall Foliage Trail Races
SUN OCT 4
The Keene Family YMCA Fall Foliage Trail Races begin and end at the Y on Summit Road in Keene, New Hampshire, when the fall colors are at their peak. Participants can select either a 5k or a 10k, making the event suitable for individuals new to trail racing and for runners seeking a longer, more challenging morning on local paths. Both courses feature a combination of wide crushed-gravel paths and winding singletrack. The 5k is quick, diverse, and accessible, offering enough trail character to introduce beginners to off-road running while allowing experienced runners to aim for a fast finish. The 10k presents greater difficulty, with smooth singletrack and significant elevation gain. Proceeds from the race benefit the YMCA’s charitable initiatives, ensuring its programs and services remain available to the local community. Volunteers are welcome to assist as course marshals, provided they can reach their assigned posts.
Run Stanley
SUN OCT 4
Run Stanley takes place in October at Stanley Park, featuring a 5K trail run/walk. It offers distinct options for children, dog owners, walkers, and individuals using wheels. The event includes a standard 5K, a 5K K9 run/walk, the Dunkin’ Donuts Munchkin Run for children, and the Stroll & Roll. This format makes it function more like a family park gathering than a race exclusively for runners. The Stroll & Roll is a 1-mile, non-competitive route on Stanley Park’s accessible paths, designed for wheelchair users. Dogs have their own 5K category, children receive a warmup and a short race, and the school with the highest number of Munchkin Run participants earns the Stanley Cup School Spirit Trophy. The event also generates funds for the care and maintenance of the Frank Stanley Bever.
Hartland Harvest Run
SAT OCT 10
The Hartland Harvest Run is a 5K road race beginning and concluding at Bethany Lutheran Bretheran Church. Race-day registration and packet pickup are available in the morning, with the 5K commencing at 9:00 AM. A 2 Mile Walk is also offered, including a T-shirt for participants and race swag for 5K runners. The church provides the event's base location. Awards recognize the top male and female finishers, along with the top three runners in age groups ranging from 12 and under to 80+. T-shirts are contingent upon advance registration, and recipients must collect them in person.
Harvest Hope 5K
SAT OCT 17
The Harvest Hope 5K is a Thanksgiving Day turkey trot held in Denver’s Stapleton neighborhood, with its focus on Central Park in northeast Denver. The primary race is a professionally timed 5K run on a USATF certified course. Families also have the option to include younger participants in a Kids 1K Fun Run. The 5K route utilizes the paths within Central Park, providing a neighborhood-park atmosphere as opposed to a downtown-street setting. This event was introduced as the first organized and timed Northeast Denver Thanksgiving Day race. Registration covers a race shirt, a goodie bag, complimentary race-day photos, and a commemorative key-chain medal upon completion. Proceeds are directed to re.
Happy Valley Half Marathon & 5K
SUN OCT 18
The Happy Valley Half Marathon & 5K takes place in Northampton, Massachusetts, during peak fall foliage. Runners can choose between a half marathon or a 5K. The course follows New England roads at the season's most colorful point. The route showcases the roads around Northampton. Afterward, the event includes a finish-line gathering with live music, food trucks, breweries, and drinks. Local runners support the event, and many participants return annually. The race also collaborates with a selected charity partner beyond race day.

SAT OCT 24
Scaredy Cat K95K
SUN OCT 25
Scaredy Cat K95K is a Halloween-season 5K walk/run for people and dogs at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in North Grafton, Massachusetts. The in-person race starts at the campus center on Westboro Road; all paces are welcome, accommodating walkers, runners, families, teams, and individuals with one dog. Costumes are encouraged. Dogs attending the campus event require proof of a current rabies vaccine, and only dogs may participate in the in-person animal field. The event supports veterinary care and animal welfare. Proceeds benefit MVMA Charities, funding emergency care for abandoned and stray animals in Massachusetts, and Tufts University's Travis Fund, assisting with care for found animals and pets whose owners cannot afford veterinary bills. Following the 5K, a health and fitness fair will feature music, local vendors, and dog demonstrations, with a prize for the best-dressed pup. A virtual 5K option is available throughout October, allowing participation with pets not permitted at the campus event.
Donny's Dash
SUN OCT 25
Donny's Dash is a Halloween-themed fall 5K and walk in Simsbury, Connecticut, located in the Farmington River Valley. Hosted by UConn basketball figure Donny Marshall, all proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford. About 5K races in Amherst Town-Northampton

Pioneer Valley Base Miles

Amherst Town-Northampton hosts 75 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run a mix of campus loops, rail trail miles, and quiet country roads between Amherst and Northampton. Downtown Northampton has the classic NoHo set, with 5 or 7 mile options through Main Street, Elm Street, Smith College, Paradise Pond, and the Manhan Rail Trail. Downtown Amherst keeps shorter intervals easy, with 3 and 4 mile running options around North Pleasant Street, Amherst College, and the Emily Dickinson house. Cushman Corner gives a 6 mile route on residential streets, farmland, and rolling hills. Northampton Run Group meets Thursdays at 6:30pm, and Western Mass 10 & NoHo 5K is the anchor event.

Locals ride the rail trails for Z2 and the roads for the good stuff. The route from Northampton to Amherst is 4 km and gains 80 meters, and the 24 mile out-and-back works cleanly for base miles. Northampton Cycling Club brings the group rides, Time Trial/Hill Climb Series, Mountain Bike Rides, and Trail Blasters Racing Team. The Hatfield Lions Annual Bike Tour is the local road anchor. Rattlesnake Gutter, Mount Tom, the Holyoke Range, Sugarloaf Mountain, Turkey Hill Road, and Westhampton hold the climbs, while Smith School Drive and March Ride cover gravel.

Spring, Summer, and Fall are the best months for runners and cyclists here. Summer keeps the Norwottuck Rail Trail open sunrise to sunset, and Northampton Cycling Club runs its Summer cycling series and weekly group rides. Locals use Amherst College Wildlife Sanctuary, Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary, Puffers Pond, and Paradise Pond for easy trail runs when it's hot out. Winter changes the rhythm for both sports, because the Northampton bike path is not plowed or maintained. Roads become the better bike option, and runners lean into campus loops, sidewalks, and steady Z2 instead of soft singletrack.
