Idaho Running Day
SAT OCT 17
Idaho Running Day begins and ends at Sandy Point Park in Boise, adjacent to Lucky Peak State Park. The event offers 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon distances, all held on the same race morning. The longer races commence at 8:00 a.m., with the 5K and 10K starting at 9:00 a.m. This schedule accommodates first-time runners, club members, and those targeting a marathon without changing locations. It is a road and park-run style event, featuring chip timing and pre-race packet collection at Fleet Feet stores throughout the Treasure Valley. All four distances follow out-and-back paths along the Boise Greenbelt, stretching between Lucky Peak Reservoir and Southeast Boise, with the Boise River nearby. The course is described as fast and flat, attracting participants from Idaho, the Pacific Northwest, Treasure Valley, Southwest Idaho, and Southeast Oregon. Runners completing their chosen distance receive custom-designed medals and athletic shirts. The event also includes prizes from local partners, a post-race gathering, and a warm-up run organized by Fleet Feet Treasure Valley prior to race day.
The YMCA Christmas Run presented by FORD
SAT DEC 19
Santa starts the YMCA Christmas Run, presented by FORD, a December running and walking event in Boise, Idaho, held at Boise High School. The event offers a 1 Mile Reindeer Dash, plus 2 Mile and 6 Mile run/walk options, allowing families, walkers, kids, and runners with various goals to participate on the same holiday morning. The event embraces the Christmas theme. Participants are encouraged to wear holiday costumes, with prizes awarded to costume winners in addition to overall and division winners. The first 1,000 participants to pick up their packets will receive Christmas Run gloves. Post-race, participants can enjoy bagels from Blue Sky Bagels, and awards will be announced in the Boise High School cafeteria. Organizers describe the race as a Treasure Valley tradition, emphasizing its local, family-friendly, and festive character over an elite or ultra-competitive identity.

About 10K races in Boise

Boise Training Notes

Boise hosts 6 10K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals use the Greenbelt for flat Z2, steady base miles, and easy shakeouts along the Boise River. The Greenbelt is our city’s shining gem when your legs need uninterrupted pavement. Fort Boise adds gravel roads and trails when you want bite without driving far. Boise Run Club meets Tuesdays at 6:30 pm at Payette Brewing for casual 1-4 mile runs. Tree City Track Club hits Boise High School on Wednesdays at 5:30 am and Payette Brewing on Sundays at 7:30 am. Bogus 50/50, Boise Marathon, St. Luke’s FitOne, and Boise Trails Challenge anchor the calendar.

Locals ride the Boise River Greenbelt when the plan says easy spin, coffee pace, or recovery after intervals. The Greenbelt runs 8 km and 21 m of elevation, so it stays friendly. The route to Table Rock is 9 km and climbs 135 m from Municipal Park. Great Rides Boise keeps the club side simple. Lost River Cycling runs a year-round Sunday road ride from Mountain Timber Coffee on North Bogus. Boise Foothills, Rocky Canyon Road, Table Rock, Bogus Basin Gravel Cycling, and Shane’s/3 Bears/5 Mile Gulch/Watchman’s Loop bring the climbs.

Spring and fall are the best months because Boise stays mild and the foothills feel close without feeling heavy. Summer brings hot, dry days, so locals ride and run early, then save Z2 for shade along the river. Boise Marathon lands on June 20, and the long light helps even when the day throws a few moods at you. Winter Warriors runs from late November to mid-February with 5-6 meetups per week. Wilson Creek and 8th street moto become useful when foothill conditions get touchy. The desert keeps riding possible when winter turns the regular singletrack into a chore.
