The Freedom Springs Triathlon begins with a 400-meter swim in 68F spring water at Blue Springs Recreation Park in Marianna, Florida. This annual Independence Day sprint triathlon includes a 10-mile bike ride and a 5K run. Relay teams of two or three people and a virtual option are also available. The bike course is an out-and-back route, and the run starts on pavement before transitioning to a clay road. The race is designed for first-time triathletes, beginners, and participants using various types of bicycles, yet it consistently sells out, and registration may close before the deadline. The morning includes a patriotic tradition: athletes rise early, stand for the National Anthem, and then proceed with the swim, bike, and run. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon.

Running: Dothan runners keep things simple and honest. You can run 23 km with just 4 m of gain when you want easy Z2. You can run 39 km with 12 m of gain for quick intervals. The Dothan Half Marathon takes runners on a lap around the perimeter of Dothan on Ross Clark Circle. Zombie Chase 5K, Champions of Hope 5K/10K, Pilgrim Chase 5K Trail Run, and Last Gasp 5K Trail Run keep the calendar moving.
Cycling: Dothan riders lean on Dothan Area Cyclists for routes, group info, and local ride chatter. The club maps the Tri-State back roads, and locals use the DAC Facebook group when they want current events and meetups. Dothan has 122 km of tracked cycling routes, so weekday spins and weekend base miles are easy to stitch together. The typical route runs 8 km with 88 m of ascent. The climbs live in the gentle rollers east toward the Chattahoochee River and in small hits like Dothan Hill Training Course. TriStates100 and Freedom Springs Triathlon work as anchor events.
Season: Spring and fall feel best for both sports, with enough mild air for long runs, gran fondo prep, and bigger Z2 rides. Summer temps hit 32°C, so locals start early and keep intervals short when the air gets thick. August brings the wettest stretch, and October usually gives the driest window for cleaner miles. Winter lows drop to 4°C, and rare snow means runners and cyclists can keep training while swapping heat tactics for light layers.
