Tri Goddess Triathlon

The Tri Goddess Triathlon begins at Portage Lake in Waterloo State Recreation Area, located approximately 12 miles west of Chelsea, Michigan. The main sprint triathlon, super sprint triathlon, sprint aquabike, and sprint duathlon all commence at 7:30 a.m. EDT. The event also provides Olympic, sprint, and mini-distance race options. It is designed for women of diverse skill levels, offering formats that allow beginners to select a shorter race and seasoned athletes to compete over longer distances. The sprint triathlon includes an 800-meter swim in the lake, a 10.3-mile bike course, and a 3-mile run. The super sprint shortens the swim to 400 meters and the run to 1.5 miles. Both bike courses utilize paved roads featuring rolling hills. The run courses combine road and trail sections within the recreation area. Participants may also opt for a duathlon, an aquabike, or a sprint relay, enabling them to omit the swim, skip the run, or divide the full sprint triathlon among teammates. A State Park permit or Recreation Passport is necessary for park entry, and open-water practice swims are available on race day.

About cycling & running in Jackson

Jackson Training Notes

Running: Jackson runners keep the week simple with paved miles on the Falling Waters Trail and the Martin Luther King Equality Trail. The Falling Waters Trail runs 5 miles of 12-foot-wide pavement from Concord into Jackson, so Z2 days stay easy. The trail covers 4 miles from Falling Waters into downtown Jackson. Grand River Arts Walk runners roll north from downtown through the Arts District. Waterloo Recreation Area gives trail folks 47 miles of hiking trails. The local run scene uses JACKSON ROSE RUN, Heart of a Lion 5K Run/Walk, and Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk as anchor events.

Cycling: Jackson riders have Cascades Cycling Club, a group of cycling enthusiasts who love riding, and the club has been active here since 1982. Cascades Cycling Club organizes group rides on rail trails, mountain bike trails, rural paved roads, and gravel roads. The Falling Waters Trail is a 6-mile paved rail trail, and locals still say they are riding it. 3 miles. The Tri Goddess Triathlon bike course has rolling hills on paved roads. Jackson College campus gives runners the race-day hills.

Season: Spring and fall feel best for base miles, long runs, gravel, and steady road riding. Summer brings warm to hot and often humid days, so locals start early, carry water, and keep intervals honest. Lime Lake rides and Falling Waters Trail spins still feel good when the pace stays casual. Winter turns cold, sometimes severely cold, and the plan changes for both sports. Runners use shorter loops, parks, and the Martin Luther King Equality Trail when footing works. Cyclists shift toward hardy road miles, gravel windows, mountain bike trails, or indoor work until the roads and rail trails settle down.
