The Mill Towns Race Series
SUN OCT 11
The Mill Towns Race Series begins and ends in Memorial Park in Dundas, Minnesota, offering marathon, half marathon, and 10K distances on an October Sunday. All three races are chip-timed, and the marathon course is certified for Boston Marathon qualification. The event is designed for runners seeking a simple race day: parking, bib pickup, start, finish, food, medals, and pre- and post-race activities are all located within the park. The course is flat and looped, following the Cannon River between Dundas and Northfield through a route bordered by trees. The 10K completes one loop, the half marathon completes two, and the marathon completes four. This means runners traverse the same sections multiple times rather than a point-to-point course. The series is USATF sanctioned, with the marathon and half marathon courses certified as MN24023MAB. Packet pickup is available before race day and on race morning. Shirts are an optional add-on during registration.
IronHorse - USATF Certified & Sanctioned
SAT MAY 1
Run the Wapsi-Great Western Line Trail, a preserved railway corridor representing America's industrial revolution. The Full and Half Marathon follow a point-to-point course through woodlands on paved trail; the Full Marathon includes four miles on crushed rock. Shorter distances are out-n-back on paved, railroad-level grades. You'll see rural scenery, from "cattle grazing, Amish farming by horse and hand," to "modern energy advancements in the form of a 30 wind turbine farm." Look for "a 240 acre Oak savanna," a wetland boardwalk, the "small village of McIntire," and "the wide expanse of farmland being planted in May." The IronHorse invites you to "lap the miles and lick the valleys up."

About Marathon races in Rochester

Rochester Miles and Rolling Roads

Rochester hosts 2 Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run the paved trail web first, because Rochester has more than 85 miles of paved biking and walking trails across over 100 city parks. The paved trail web forms an 8-mile loop, and runners doing intervals just stack laps. Quarry Hill Nature Center gives you over eight miles through woodlands, meadows, prairies, and oak savannas. Soldiers Memorial Field Track handles faster work. Rochester Running Club keeps the weekly meetup and race calendar moving. Med City Marathon, Spring Classic, Polar Bear Prediction 5k Run, Rochester Women’s 4-Mile Race, and Reggie Oeltjen Douglas Trail 11-Mile Race anchor the year.

Locals ride a good mix of rail-trail, path, and gravel. The Douglas State Trail runs 5 miles from northwest Rochester to Pine Island, and the round trip makes easy Z2 base miles. The Douglas State Trail also has a 5-mile loop with hills. Great River Ridge State Trail brings 13 miles with hills, farms, and trees. Rochester Active Sports Community runs Monday and Wednesday road rides at 6pm and Thursday gravel rides at 6pm. We Bike Rochester keeps it social with Med City Meander, Morning Coffee Rides, Art4Trails rides, and Concert & Event Rides.

Spring and fall feel like the best training windows, because the air turns manageable and the trails stay busy without feeling cooked. Summer brings warm humid continental weather, All-Comers' Track Meets at Soldiers Memorial Field Track, the YMCA Camp Olson Rochesterfest Mile, and long evenings for gravel. Winter changes the game. Locals still run, but course conditions can be snowy and slippery. Rochester Active Sports Community grooms winter trails for fat tire biking, walking, and running. Quarry Hill and Essex parks pick up groomed Nordic ski trails. January to April bring the windiest months, so Z2 gets honest fast.
