Brains Together Annual Event
SAT OCT 3
The Brains Together Annual Event is a family-friendly morning gathering at RCTC Field House on College Parkway Southeast in Rochester, Minnesota. Participants can choose between a 2-mile walk and a 5K run; the 5K is chip-timed for those seeking an official result. This event is dedicated to honoring and remembering individuals impacted by brain tumors, and all participants register, regardless of whether they intend to run, walk, or primarily offer support. The course options ensure accessibility: a shorter walk is available for families and supporters, alongside a standard 5K for runners. Children aged 12 and under may register without charge when accompanied by a registered adult, facilitating family participation. Early registration aligns with Brain Tumor Awareness Month. A central tradition involves convening the brain tumor community to connect, demonstrate support, and commemorate loved ones.
Dead Run 2026
SAT OCT 3
Dead Run is a morning 5K through downtown Raleigh, beginning on South Wilmington Street near Centro. It is downtown Raleigh's only 5K followed by a street festival, and the race raises funds for the Boys & Girls Club. The event operates as a community race, attracting people of various ages with both the run and the post-race block party. The course follows downtown Raleigh streets, then shifts to the Centro block of Wilmington Street for vendors and food after the finish. The Day of the Dead theme is integrated into the event: two traditional altars are present, and the festival offers a way to learn about and participate in the observance. Runners get a race tee designed by Ruben Rodriguez, and a post-race drink from Trophy Brewing Company, with non-alcoholic choices provided.
Spooky Sprint- Rochester
SUN OCT 11
Spooky Sprint is a Halloween-themed race in Garland, Texas, located in the Dallas area. It offers distances suitable for a short family outing or a longer morning run. Participants can select from a 1-mile race, 5k, 10k, or half marathon, accommodating children, walkers, first-time runners, and those seeking a full training challenge. The race is a component of the local Bodies Race Series, known for its family-friendly events and inclusivity for runners of all fitness levels. The event features chip timing, live results, awards, designer shirts, and custom medals. This provides a structured race experience while maintaining a strong Halloween atmosphere.

Rochester Turkey Trot 5K
THU NOV 26
The Rochester Turkey Trot 5K is a Thanksgiving morning run and walk in Rochester, Minnesota, featuring a 5K distance. It begins near Soldiers Field Drive Southwest and provides a timed 5K for those seeking a result and an untimed 5K walk for families wanting to be active before their holiday meal. The event also offers a kids’ 5K fun run for ages 11 and under, a free 100-meter Kids Dash for ages 8 and under, and a virtual 5K for those unable to attend in person. A distinctive feature is the donut: 5K participants receive one, and the kids’ fun run includes a finisher donut along with an untimed bib.
Storm the Bluffs
SAT DEC 5
Storm the Bluffs concludes The Storm Trail Race Series at Bronk Unit Plowline Trails, located at 26524 Brook Drive in Minnesota. The primary event is a trail duathlon: a 15k run, followed by a 15k mountain bike leg, and concluding with a 2k run. The duathlon begins at 9:00 a.m. CST, while a distinct 15K Mountain Bike race commences at 10:00 a.m. CST. The duathlon course features an initial three-quarter-mile uphill singletrack section, then continues on single and doubletrack trails for 15k back to the transition zone. Participants then ride the same 15k route on their bikes, finishing that segment with a half-mile descent, prior to a final kilometer uphill and a kilometer downhill to the finish. The standalone bike race starts with a half-mile gravel ascent, proceeds through double and singletrack terrain, and returns via the same half-mile gravel road to the finish.
IronHorse - USATF Certified & Sanctioned
SAT MAY 1
Run the Wapsi-Great Western Line Trail, a preserved railway corridor representing America's industrial revolution. The Full and Half Marathon follow a point-to-point course through woodlands on paved trail; the Full Marathon includes four miles on crushed rock. Shorter distances are out-n-back on paved, railroad-level grades. You'll see rural scenery, from "cattle grazing, Amish farming by horse and hand," to "modern energy advancements in the form of a 30 wind turbine farm." Look for "a 240 acre Oak savanna," a wetland boardwalk, the "small village of McIntire," and "the wide expanse of farmland being planted in May." The IronHorse invites you to "lap the miles and lick the valleys up."

About 5K races in Rochester

Rochester Miles and Rolling Roads

Rochester hosts 22 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run the paved trail web first, because Rochester has more than 85 miles of paved biking and walking trails across over 100 city parks. The paved trail web forms an 8-mile loop, and runners doing intervals just stack laps. Quarry Hill Nature Center gives you over eight miles through woodlands, meadows, prairies, and oak savannas. Soldiers Memorial Field Track handles faster work. Rochester Running Club keeps the weekly meetup and race calendar moving. Med City Marathon, Spring Classic, Polar Bear Prediction 5k Run, Rochester Women’s 4-Mile Race, and Reggie Oeltjen Douglas Trail 11-Mile Race anchor the year.

Locals ride a good mix of rail-trail, path, and gravel. The Douglas State Trail runs 5 miles from northwest Rochester to Pine Island, and the round trip makes easy Z2 base miles. The Douglas State Trail also has a 5-mile loop with hills. Great River Ridge State Trail brings 13 miles with hills, farms, and trees. Rochester Active Sports Community runs Monday and Wednesday road rides at 6pm and Thursday gravel rides at 6pm. We Bike Rochester keeps it social with Med City Meander, Morning Coffee Rides, Art4Trails rides, and Concert & Event Rides.

Spring and fall feel like the best training windows, because the air turns manageable and the trails stay busy without feeling cooked. Summer brings warm humid continental weather, All-Comers' Track Meets at Soldiers Memorial Field Track, the YMCA Camp Olson Rochesterfest Mile, and long evenings for gravel. Winter changes the game. Locals still run, but course conditions can be snowy and slippery. Rochester Active Sports Community grooms winter trails for fat tire biking, walking, and running. Quarry Hill and Essex parks pick up groomed Nordic ski trails. January to April bring the windiest months, so Z2 gets honest fast.
