Recurring Marathon races near Salt Lake City

Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

Antelope Island Marathon - 26.2 - 13.1 - 10K - 5K
FRI OCT 9
The Antelope Island Marathon offers runners four paved-road options on the largest island in the Great Salt Lake: a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K. All four distances begin and end at Antelope Island Marina, utilizing island parking and keeping runners near the water. The event also includes a virtual race and invite-only pacer entries for the marathon and half marathon. The course follows Antelope Island roads and the causeway over the Great Salt Lake, with lake views to the east and the island’s mountains to the west. The marathon course features several rolling sections, not just a downhill run. The island's wildlife is a primary attraction, with approximately 600 bison, mule deer, bighorn sheep, and over 400 bird species inhabiting the area. Previously known as the Layton Marathon, all in-person distances are now held exclusively on Antelope Island.
2024 Better Being Antelope Island Marathon
FRI OCT 9
The Better Being Antelope Island Marathon is part of the Buffalo Run on Antelope Island, a spring trail-running event where wild bison may be near the route. Runners choose from 25K, 50K, and 50-mile distances, all on rolling singletrack through desert grasslands with open views toward the Great Salt Lake. The event began in 2006 with 150 runners in the 25K and 50K, then later added the 50-mile race. The 25K race is about 16.48 miles with roughly 1,687 feet of climbing, while the 50K has about 3,038 feet of gain and the 50-mile race has about 3,428 feet. All three distances use an 11:59 p.m. cut-off, allowing the day for faster runners chasing records and people trying to finish a long trail race. The Pentalon Challenge adds prize money for new course records: $500 in the 50-mile and 50K races, and $250 in the 25K.
WASATCH 1/2 MARATHON AND 10K
SAT OCT 10
The Wasatch 1/2 Marathon and 10K is a mostly trail race based at Soldier Hollow in Utah, with both distances starting and finishing near the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center. The half marathon starts at 8:00 a.m. and the 10K follows at 8:10, so runners usually begin in cool mountain air, with early temperatures often in the 30s to 50s Fahrenheit. TriUtah presents the event, and parking is at the start and finish area, so runners do not need a shuttle. The course uses signed and volunteer-marked trail sections, but runners are still expected to know the route and use caution. Aid stations sit at Deer Creek North Trailhead, the 10K turnaround, and the half marathon turnaround, though runners are encouraged to carry their own water and nutrition. Finishers receive a shirt and medal, awards go three deep in 10-year age groups, and the race is now in its seventh annual running.
Haunted 5K, 10K, 13.1M & 26.2M at Highland, UT (42)
SAT OCT 17
The Haunted race in Highland, Utah, starts from 4800 Knight Ave and offers four distance choices: 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon. The race begins at 8:30 AM. Packet pickup opens 30 minutes before the start and closes 10 minutes before runners depart. The 5K and 10K follow an out-and-back course; 5K runners complete it once, while 10K runners go out and back. The half marathon and marathon have a separate course. Parking is available near the start. All participants must register in advance on RunSignup, as no race-day registration is available.
Revolution Run - New Years Day Morning
FRI JAN 1
The Revolution Run is a January 1 running event held in Kearns, Utah, starting at 5662 S Cougar Ln. Participants can select from four race distances: 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon. This allows for a New Year’s morning activity ranging from a short holiday run to a full 42.2 km effort. The available distances are 5.0 km, 10.0 km, 21.1 km, and 42.2 km. The event's unique characteristic is its timing, specifically designed for New Year’s Day morning. It caters to individuals seeking a structured run to begin the year, rather than a spontaneous jog.
Salt Lake City Marathon
SAT APR 24
The Salt Lake City Marathon begins near the foothills at the Olympic Legacy Bridge on the University of Utah campus, then descends toward the city and concludes at Library Square downtown. This April road race, held since 2004, features a full marathon as the main event of a larger race weekend that also includes a half marathon, 10K, 5K, Kids K, and a bike tour. The full and half marathon share the same start line, and the bike tour utilizes the marathon route earlier in the morning. The event attracts participants ranging from marathoners seeking a fast downhill section to families entering the shorter races, with the Kids K designed for children 10 and under. The course travels from higher ground above Salt Lake City through the city center, follows sections of the Wasatch foothills, and extends into nearby Millcreek and Holladay before looping back toward the downtown finish. Runners have unobstructed views of the Wasatch Mountains, yet the route remains distinctly urban, crossing neighborhoods, local streets, businesses, and main roads rather than trails. The half marathon is predominantly flat or downhill. Marathon course records stand at 2:15:14 for men and 2:30:08 for women. The race was initially organized by Devine Racing, underwent several ownership changes, and now offers standard large-race amenities: supported courses, shirts, medals, timing-chip bibs, sponsor giveaways, and a post-race gathering with food, drinks, music, and activities.

About Marathon races in Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City-Murray Training Notes

Salt Lake City hosts 17 Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run the Jordan River Parkway for steady base miles, especially the 3900 South to 12300 South stretch through the valley. The Murray City Section from 4800 S to 6400 S stays maintained in winter, so it keeps Z2 honest. The inside paved loop runs 4 miles. The perimeter grass loop runs 8.2 miles. Salt Lake City Track Club handles Tuesday Speedwork at East High School and long runs from 7:00 to 12:00 minute miles. The RUN SLC Race Series, Salt Lake City Marathon, and Liberty Park Endurance Runs anchor the calendar.

Locals ride paved paths along waterways, wide roads with good shoulders, and canyon climbs that start fast from town. Bonneville Cycling Club gives riders 500+ riding opportunities per year, and Contender Bicycles shows up in the gravel scene with rowdy mixed routes. City Creek Canyon runs 10 miles out and back with 1122 feet of elevation gain. Emigration Canyon gives climbers 16 miles out and back with 1339 feet of elevation gain. Millcreek Canyon hits 18 miles out and back with 2628 feet of elevation gain. Big Cottonwood Canyon makes riders earn 30 miles out and back with 4104 feet of elevation gain. Salt Lake Criterium and The Ultimate Challenge are the big anchor events.

Salt Lake City sits at 1,300 m and the Wasatch rising hard to the east. Summer puts the Salt Lake Criterium in the Granary District and Level Crossing Brewing Company at Post District, and The Ultimate Challenge brings gran fondo energy into the same orbit. Runners keep mornings productive on City Creek Canyon, Sugar House Park, Liberty Park, and the Jordan River Parkway. Winter sends some runners to the maintained Murray City Section or the 442-meter indoor track at the Utah Olympic Oval. Snow partially closes Millcreek Canyon Road, and valley trails ride better once they melt off and drain.
