Traverse City, MI

Traverse City sits on Grand Traverse Bay in Michigan's cherry-growing heartland, with rolling glacial terrain that makes for punchy cycling. The Tour de TART is the signature bike race here, a 22.5km loop through the vineyards and orchards south of town; the Crystal Rush (29.9km) pushes harder into the Leelanau Peninsula's hills. Running is mostly flat around the bay itself, but trail runners head inland to the Boardman River valley or east toward the higher ground near Acme, where elevation climbs to 300m above lake level.
