Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

Makoa 5K, 10K & Half Marathon
SAT NOV 21
Makoa is a 5K, 10K, and half marathon series held at Wai Kai in Ewa Beach on West Oahu. The start and finish are at Hawaii's sole waterfront recreation facility. The event also offers a 5K Turkey Trot for Heroes. The name, pronounced mah-KOH-ah, means brave, fearless, or courageous. The courses are flat and fast, with each route measured at least three times before race day. Aid stations are positioned about a mile apart, offering water, electrolytes, and first aid, with medical support at every start and finish line. Finishers receive custom medals with distance-specific ribbons, cooling towels, free professional race photos, and a post-race meal of breakfast burritos and chocolate milk.
Ku'ikahi 5K & 10K
SAT MAR 20
The Ku'ikahi 5K & 10K is a road race in Honolulu, starting from Ala Moana Beach Park, offering both 5K and 10K distances. Aloha Racing presents the event, which begins early in the morning on a fast, flat oceanfront course. It is a relatively new race, with an expected field of approximately 1 to 100 participants, distinguishing it from large city races. Both distances incorporate Magic Island, the peninsula adjacent to Ala Moana, before proceeding along the water. Runners are treated to unobstructed views of Waikiki, the turquoise ocean, and Diamond Head, with the sound of waves audible along sections of the path. The park's environment also facilitates easy spectating for friends and family, allowing them to cheer without needing to travel across town.

About 10K races in Urban Honolulu

Honolulu Base Miles By The Water

Urban Honolulu hosts 3 10K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run early, before everybody’s out and about. You can knock out 8 miles without making a production of it. Kapiolani Park, Ala Moana Beach Park, and Magic Island work for easy Z2, shakeouts, and 5K rhythm. Pearl Harbor trail stays paved the whole way, and locals use it when they want steady miles. East Oahu gives you Diamond Head to Ala Moana, Aina Haina, and Waikiki when the long run needs room. Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club is Hawaii’s largest running club. Honolulu Marathon Clinic meets every Sunday morning in Kapiolani Park. Honolulu Marathon, Hapalua, Hibiscus Half Marathon, Mango Days 5K, and Coconut Chase 8K keep the calendar honest.

Local riders know that right out the door they are dealing with urban riding. Ala Moana Beach Park Trail and Diamond Head Loop work for easy spins and recovery laps. The route to Haunama Bay stays mostly flat with wide bike paths and ocean views. Tantalus Drive and Makapu'u Point Route brings the bigger effort. Tantalus Drive climbs 7 km with 697 m elevation, so intervals bite fast. Oahu Populaire gives you 101 km with 574 m elevation when base miles need shape. Kam Highway up to North Shore stays pancake flat. Highway 72 valleys bring punchy 1000-foot climbs. Honolulu Century Ride, Tantalus Time Trial, Dick Evans Memorial Race, and Hale'iwa Metric Century Ride are the anchor events.

Summer runs from May to October, and the city feels best when locals start early. Temps hit around 24°C (75°F), so mornings are for tempo, Z2, and the long stuff. Ala Moana Beach Park and Kapiolani Park stay useful because the loops are simple and the water is close. Winter temps drop to around 18°C (64°F). Winter brings most of the rain, so runners lean on paved routes like Pearl Harbor trail and riders keep the coastal loops flexible. Tantalus still works when the legs want climbing.
