Locals run Wausau from the Wisconsin River out to the parks. Rib Mountain State Park gives hillier legs, while Oak Island Community Park, Fern Island Community Park, Marathon Park, and Athletic Park keep weekday miles simple. The loop runs 42 km and gains 20 m, so it works for an easy shakeout. The short loop runs 23 km and gains 7 m when you just need short base miles.
