The Nakanoto Treasure Trail Run takes place in Nakanoto, on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, starting at the Lifelong Learning Center Rapia Kashima. The race crosses Noto’s satoyama landscape, a World Agricultural Heritage site. It features a 50 km Dream Course, approximately 47.7 km with about 2,376 m of elevation gain, and a 25 km Gold Course for those preferring a shorter mountain challenge.
Tsuyoshi Kaburaki, a prominent Japanese trail runner, produces the event, lending it a distinct trail-running identity. The course incorporates old paths, forest trails, and steep mountain segments, passing through Noto’s remaining beech forest, ancient ruins, Mt. Goishigamine (50 km route), and Mt. Ishido and Mt. Masugatake (25 km route). Wet conditions can make the trails muddy, and some steep ascents and descents may require ropes, demanding more than road-running endurance. Aid stations often feature local offerings like Noto beef Go! Go! Curry, udon, egg sandwiches, and drinks provided by residents. The event holds significance as runners return after past cancellations and regional disasters, using the race to witness Noto’s recovery firsthand while engaging with the local community.
