The Tsukuba Mountain Range Tenku Road & Trail Run in Ishioka is a 70-kilometer race held in midsummer, based in Ishioka City's former Yasato area. It is split evenly between road and trail, requiring runners to transition between paved village roads and mountain paths, preventing a single consistent rhythm. The organizers refer to it as a midsummer monster race; the distance combined with multiple peak ascents presents a significant pacing challenge.
The road portions traverse areas with old thatched-roof houses, nagayamon gates, and painted beams, lending the initial miles a historic, rural atmosphere. The trail sections wind through mountains that border Ishioka, Kasama, and Sakuragawa, featuring successive climbs over several peaks. Sports Window is the organizing body, and this event represents the thirteenth running of the series.
