Huntly Speedway anchors this traditional race, with the Huntly Half Marathon winding through lakes, mine country, and town streets before returning to the track. Established in 1981, it has the character of a long-standing local event rather than a slick production, focused on runners and walkers getting the job done.
The course is a hybrid, mixing off-road and road sections. It circles Lake Kimihia and East Mine, then loops Lake Hakanoa before incorporating parts of the original Huntly course and local streets. Serious runners, casual participants, walkers, children, and younger runners all attend, giving the day a wide club-event atmosphere, with the Speedway finish providing a shared, distinct goal to return to.
