À Salem Lake, tu as un sentier d'1 mile et une boucle de 7 miles en gravier concassé. Hanes Park, c'est top pour les habitants avec sa piste en caoutchouc et une boucle autour du parc pour les fractionnés, les footings de récup et les sorties en Z2 tranquille. Le Run Club, on se retrouve le samedi à 8h30 chez Sayso Coffee, et après, on se balade dans le centre de Winston-Salem avec la bande des "boire un café, avaler des kilomètres". Le Twin City Track Club, eux, ils te tiennent le calendrier des courses à jour avec des sorties de groupe et les classiques de la ville. La TCTC Summer Track Series, l'Ultimate Runner, le Beat the Heat 5k, la Mistletoe Run et le Frosty 50, ce sont les événements phares.

La brasserie Fiddlin Fish en centre-ville, elle propose aux cyclistes une sortie cool le lundi soir, vers 18h, de 10-12 miles, sans laisser personne derrière. Les locaux disent que c'est sympa, accueillant, et une bonne entrée en matière pour le vélo en ville. Crossroads Cycling et Bespoke Cycling, eux, ils organisent des sorties de groupe quand tu cherches à rouler plus vite et avec un bon rythme. Le National Cycling Center est à Winston-Salem et il fait vivre le vélo grâce à Pedals for People, la WS Cycling Classic et leur travail sur la sécurité. Les cyclistes sur route, ils partent autour de Lewisville et dans la campagne pour leurs base miles. Au nord, ça pointe vers les anciennes Sauratown Mountains quand on veut des montées, et Hobby Park peut t'offrir du temps sur les sentiers VTT pour les jambes de singletrack.

Winston-Salem, ça nous donne un rythme subtropical humide, alors on organise nos meilleures semaines autour des matinées fraîches et de bonnes habitudes. L'été, ça amène son lot d'air chaud et humide, mais Salem Lake, Muddy Creek Greenway, Reynolda Gardens et les sorties de groupe en ville restent possibles si on part tôt. Les cyclistes gardent les sorties Fiddlin Fish du lundi tranquilles, et ils gardent les intervalles plus durs pour les créneaux où on se sent mieux. L'hiver, c'est plus frais, et les coureurs se lancent dans la saison du Frosty 50, les séances sur piste et les boucles dans les parcs, sans se prendre la tête. Les cyclistes, eux, ils continuent leurs Z2, prennent ce que la journée leur offre, et retrouvent les mêmes groupes locaux quand le calendrier se calme un peu.
