The Breisgau Triathlon begins at Riegeler Müllersee, centered near Malterdingen, approximately 20 km north of Freiburg in southwest Germany. Racing commences at 10 am, featuring two options: a middle distance (1.9 km swim, 80 km bike, 21 km run) and a Jedermann race (0.7 km swim, 32 km bike, 5 km run).
The middle-distance cycling segment starts with a flat 7 km stretch toward Malterdingen. It then proceeds through three laps incorporating forest ascents, descents, small villages, and a technical passage through vineyards. The longer race includes roughly 1,020 meters of climbing on the bike and 300 meters on the run, indicating it is not solely a flat course. TNB Malterdingen is the organizer, attracting competitive triathletes, relay teams, novices, and short-distance competitors; one sold-out edition had 565 participants across both distances. Notable local elements are a distinct women’s start area, substantial race catering, and prize money.
