The Eibsee-Herbstlauf is a 12.2 km autumn race in Bavaria. It begins in Grainau and ascends to the Eibsee, held annually on the last Sunday in October since 1981. Simply put, participants depart the village and proceed uphill to a mountain lake situated approximately 240 meters above the starting point.
The route leads towards one of Germany’s most striking alpine settings, with the Zugspitze’s north face looming over the Eibsee close to the finish. This ascent provides the race with more challenge than a flat 12K, yet the distance remains accessible for club and fit recreational runners aiming for a demanding autumn effort. Its established tradition is also significant: the same season, the same late-October timing, and the same point-to-point climb from Grainau to the lake for over forty years.
