Nibelungen-Triathlon 2026

The Nibelungen-Triathlon takes place at the Strandbad Freizeitzentrum in Xanten, North Rhine-Westphalia, with the start and finish lines situated by the water at the leisure center. Organized by TuS Xanten’s triathlon section, it features individual and relay competitions across two primary formats: the Draxi distance and the Olympic distance. The Draxi race consists of a 500-meter swim, a 17-kilometer cycle, and a 5-kilometer run. The Olympic race involves a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 42-kilometer bike leg, and a 10-kilometer run. The individual Draxi race is the largest listed event, anticipating approximately 800 participants, while the individual Olympic race expects around 500. The swimming portion occurs in the lake at the Freizeitzentrum, between the North Lake and South Lake, beginning with a distinct local water body instead of a pool or river. Both distances offer relay options, allowing participants to divide the swim, bike, and run segments. The shorter relay is named Staffel-Draxi, and the Olympic relay mirrors the distances of the individual Olympic race. Helmets are mandatory for cyclists, and timing is managed by ChampionChip, requiring participants to have their timing chip alongside standard triathlon gear. This event marks its 40th edition, highlighting its established local presence.
