The Sechtemer Burgenlauf takes place in Sechtem, a district of Bornheim, with the start and finish on the Wendelinusschule schoolyard. It is held on a Sunday in late August and includes a range of distances: a short Bambini run, a schoolchildren’s race, a youth race, 5 km walking, a 5 km open run, and a 10 km main race. The event is designed for families and local runners, with free children’s races at the start and longer races later.
The course features a new layout, and the 10 km race is the main competitive event. It offers awards for top women and men, age-group awards, a team ranking, a prize for the team with the most participants, and a Bornheim City Championship category with its own awards ceremony. The Bambini run is straightforward: no registration, no timing, no entry fee, and every child receives a medal. Online registration is handled by RaceResult for timed events, while walkers, youth runners, 5 km runners, and 10 km racers all use the same village course.
