The VSB Dresdner Nachtlauf guides runners through Dresden during twilight, with torches and glow sticks illuminating the path as the city descends into darkness. This Friday evening road race offers two primary adult distances: a 6.2 km run and an 11.5 km run. The course is flat, urban, and configured as a single loop, with all races concluding on Wilsdruffer Strasse in central Dresden. The organizer also includes children's and youth races, with age categories defined.
The 11.5 km race begins downtown, adjacent to the Dresden City Festival crowds, and proceeds towards the Elbe Cycle Path. Runners will see illuminated Elbe castles and proceed to the Blue Wonder bridge before returning towards the city's night lights. The 6.2 km option is a more straightforward, quicker route, crossing Elbe bridges and passing the Power Zone at the Rose Garden on the return to the finish. The most prominent tradition is the illumination: torches, glow sticks, a darkening sky, and a loud finish with significant applause.
