La Pyrénéa is a snow triathlon in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, connecting Pau with the Gourette ski resort in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. It replaces the typical swim-bike-run with running, road cycling, and ski touring, making the mountain finish an integral part of the event. The complete course spans 61 km with 2,300 meters of elevation gain. Participants can compete individually in La Pyrénéa Solo or as a three-person team in La Pyrénéa Relais.
The event begins with a run from Pau to Rébénacq. The route then transitions to a road cycling climb towards Gourette, concluding with ski touring within the resort. It adheres to FFTRI regulations, though its spirit aligns more with a challenging mountain excursion shared among specialists, club athletes, and relay members than a conventional city triathlon. La Pyrénéa is celebrating its 40th edition. Its significance lies in being one of France's initial snow triathlons, founded on sustained effort and a welcoming race-day environment.
