Rural Kutxa Semi-Marathon de San Sebastian
日 10月 4
The Rural Kutxa Semi-Marathon de San Sebastian is a 21 km road race held in San Sebastian, Guipuzcoa, within the Spanish Basque Country. It takes place in October, beginning at City Hall, and attracts approximately 5,000 participants, offering a large-city half marathon atmosphere without being an overwhelming event. The course remains entirely within the city limits, utilizing asphalt throughout, with no trail or rough terrain. Participants have 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the race, emphasizing the need for training even for those focused on finishing. Ayad Lamdassem's course record of 1:02:48 indicates the high speed of the leading competitors.
Semi-Marathon du Pays-Basque Donibane Hondarribia
日 10月 25
The Semi-Marathon du Pays-Basque Donibane Hondarribia is a 21.097 km half marathon held each October, starting in Donibane Lohizune (Saint-Jean-de-Luz) and finishing in Hondarribia, on the Spanish side of the Basque Country. Its main draw is the border crossing: runners begin in France and end in Euskadi, with a course approved by both French and Spanish athletics federations. The route goes through Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Ciboure, Hendaye, and Fontarrabie before concluding in Hondarribia. The race is organized by the club Ur J, requires a medical certificate from participants, and provides each runner with a bib printed with their name. A portion of the race's income supports social causes, and the event causes traffic disruptions in several Basque Country municipalities on race day.
Hendaia trail - Hendaye
月 2月 8
Hendaia Trail begins in Hendaye, a town in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques located at the far southwestern edge of the French coast. Situated in the heart of the Basque Country, it is the last coastal town before Spain, giving the race the distinct setting of a border town between the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains. This trail-running event offers two race options, designed for runners seeking a challenge beyond a flat road course. The routes guide participants up to the heights overlooking Hendaye and return through the town’s streets, incorporating flat sections alongside more demanding terrain. The course crosses both beach and mountain landscapes, and it winds through an area rich in Basque identity, diverging from a purely wild path. While the Basque Country hosts trail races year-round, this event was established as Hendaye’s inaugural nature trail race.
Senpereko Trail
日 3月 7
Senpereko Trail is a trail-running event in Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, southwestern France. The main race is a 21 km mountain trail, held in March from the Ibarron neighborhood fronton, featuring approximately 1,050 to 1,070 meters of elevation gain. The event offers four distances: 10 km, 21 km, 42 km, and 80 km, covering a spectrum from a local trail race to a demanding day in the mountains. The 21 km route crosses hills, historic paths, pastures, and oak forests, with clear views of La Rhune and nearby peaks. Some sections might briefly enter Spain, reflecting the region's border character. SPUC Lasterka, a Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle club established in 2008, manages the race. The 21 km race holds UTMB Index status and attracts a significant number of participants for a local trail event, resulting in hundreds of finishers.
Senpereko trail - Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle
日 3月 7
Senpereko Trail is a weekend trail-running series held in Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle, Pyrénées-Atlantiques. It features four races and two hikes, with distances ranging from the 10.8 km Ibar Run Trail to the 81.9 km Tontorrez Tontor. The shorter race involves a 420-metre climb, and the longest route gains 4,830 metres, making even the shortest option a substantial mountain run. The courses are set between the Basque Country's Atlantic coast and its mountains, utilizing the peaks surrounding the Rhune massif. Saturday's main events include the 81.9 km Tontorrez Tontor, the 41.9 km Gotorlekuen Itzulia, and the 10.8 km Ibar Run Trail. Sunday features the 21.1 km race with 1,070 metres of elevation gain. The most challenging option includes a loop towards the Bidassoa, offering a more extensive tour beyond the Rhune area for experienced participants.
Skyrhune - Ascain
日 3月 7
Skyrhune is a 21 km mountain trail race starting in Ascain, Basque Country, featuring 1,700 m of elevation gain on a compact, demanding course. Participants will ascend the slopes of La Rhune, focusing on steep climbs, rapid descents, and technical trail running over leisurely distances. The race attracts trail runners from all over France, with only 500 spots available via lottery for its upcoming edition. The atmosphere in Ascain is notable, with one runner describing it as a race with significant atmosphere, commending the organization, and expressing regret that it concluded after ten editions. A shorter option, Skyrhune Ttiki, offers a different route within the same locale for those seeking a less demanding 21 km course.
Trail du Marensin - Vielle-Saint-Girons
土 3月 20
Trail du Marensin is a night trail race held in Vielle-Saint-Girons, a village within the Landes region of southwest France. Participants begin at the Yvonne Mester stadium and can select either a 10 km or a 21 km course. This setup accommodates individuals seeking a brief night run as well as those aiming for a half-marathon distance trail event. The race is now in its 17th year, indicating a well-established local event rather than a fleeting novelty. Its primary distinguishing characteristic is straightforward: both distances are completed after sunset. This transforms the Marensin trails into a headlamp-required race, where managing pace, maintaining footing, and staying alert become more critical than during a standard daytime road race.
Course Du Laka - Lakako Lasterkaldia - Osses
月 4月 19
Course du Laka, also called Lakako Lasterkaldia, is a Basque trail race starting in the village center of Ossès, or Ortzaize, in Basse Navarre in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. The main race is about 21 to 22 kilometers with 1,100 to 1,300 meters of climbing, placing it in the short-but-steep mountain trail category. A 14 km hike, starting earlier than the run, is also part of the event, giving walkers a place on the same race day. It is organized by LOKARRI ELKARTEA. Ossès is located near Bidarray, Macaye, Hélette, Irissarry, Mendionde, Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry, and Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. The loop climbs soon after leaving Ossès, with most of the height gain concentrated in the first major ascent after the initial kilometer. Before the fifth kilometer, it reaches a ridge with ruins, then goes around Haltzamendi, climbs Laina, and continues along another ridge toward Mount Baïgura, the high point at 897 meters. From the summit area, runners can view the ridges of Iparla, Artzamendi, and Rhune, and in clear weather, the Landes, the Atlantic, and the Pyrenees. The return route is a long descent to Ossès, following several small streams before reaching the village. Local clubs, including SPUC LASTERKA, participate by sending groups of runners and walkers.
