The La Spoletonorcia in MTB begins in Spoleto, within Umbria’s Perugia province. It directs mountain bikes onto the old railway path that formerly connected Spoleto with Norcia. This yearly event offers both a competitive race and a cycle-touring option, accommodating riders aiming for a strong finish and those seeking an extended day on their bikes. Organizers state it is Central Italy’s largest two-wheeled event, attracting thousands of athletes, cycling enthusiasts, cycle tourists, and nature-oriented riders annually.
The route traces the former railway into the Valnerina, utilizing a segment of local transport history as the ride’s foundation. Participants can select from four routes: Family for an accessible excursion, Classic on the event’s original line, Classic Easy Route for a less demanding version, and Hard for seasoned mountain bikers. The Hard course presents a significant challenge, featuring a 75 km loop with 2,200 m of elevation gain. E-MTBs, fat bikes, and mountain tandems are permitted. The race weekend also features games, performances, Umbrian cuisine, children’s entertainment, and appearances by sports personalities.
