Hansastafetten is an eight-leg relay held in Sandsli and Kokstad, Bergen, beginning and concluding at the Kokstad Bybanen stop near Aibel. This evening race takes place in May, commencing at 18:00, and is designed for teams, not individual participants. Categories include men's, women's, and mixed teams, with mixed teams needing a minimum of two women. Having completed over fifty editions, the event is a fixture in the local calendar, serving as a workplace and club relay rather than an occasional fun run.
The course is brief, intense, and varied. Legs vary from approximately 210 metres to 1.3 kilometres. Early legs feature flat, downhill running, followed by a steep climb on the third leg and another steep uphill on the fourth. The middle sections are hilly, leading to a flat final leg. Bibs are distributed from Gneist's trailer at the start/finish area. Teams may use changing rooms at Hansa post-race; shower facilities are restricted. The relay concludes with awards, refreshments, and a private social gathering for runners and team leaders in the Hansa canteen, giving the post-race activities a structure comparable to the race itself.
