Midnattsloppet (Malmö)
The Malmö Midnattsloppet begins and ends at Stortorget, with participants running after dark in late August. This race is part of the larger Midnattsloppet series, which also takes place in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Helsinki. In Malmö, runners can select between a 10 km or 5 km distance; the 10 km race commences earlier in the evening, followed by the 5 km race later at night. The Malmö race embraces the "midnight run" concept: the gathering, the city-center location, and the late start are nearly as significant as the finishing time. It appeals to swift runners aiming for a personal best, as well as teams, corporate groups, and individuals seeking a night race with greater energy and ambiance than a standard road 10K. The series originated in Stockholm in the early 1980s, eventually establishing 10,000 meters as its primary distance, and grew to become one of Europe's largest 10K events by participation.
