地元の人たちは、特に何も考えずにbase milesを稼ぎたい時、セントラルパークを走るよ。一周6マイルちょっとで、必ずスタート地点に戻ってこれるからね。ブルックリンだとプロスペクトパークが同じような感じで、気持ちよく走れるんだ。セントラルパークを3周すれば18マイル、獲得標高も800フィート近くになるよ。マンハッタンウォーターフロントグリーンウェイは58マイルのループで、水辺の景色が最高なんだ。Front Runners、Queens Distance Runners、North Brooklyn Runners、We Run Uptown、New York Road Runnersみたいなクラブが毎週イベントを企画してるから、飽きないよ。1 NYCとかASICS Blue Jean Mile - NYCみたいなイベントが、年間を通してのメインになってるね。

ニューヨークは、地元の人たちが柔軟に対応すれば一年中トレーニングできる場所だよ。冬はランナーもサイクリストも、公園が空いてて最高のトレーニング時期なんだ。セントラルパーク、プロスペクトパーク、Floyd Bennet Fieldなんかは、長い有酸素運動にすごくいい感じになる。夏は暑くて湿度も高くて、日差しも強いけど、Long Beach/Point LookoutやRockaway Beach方面へのビーチライドは、特に夜だと最高に気持ちいいよ。雪はたいていすぐ溶けちゃうけど、道が滑りやすくなるから、乗るバイクは選ぶ必要があるね。塩が撒かれるから、レースバイクは冬の間はしまっておいて、Bバイクが冬の走行距離を稼ぐことになる。地元の人たちは、朝5時でもちゃんと道を共有してるから、インターバル練習はしっかりできるけど、決して油断はできないよ。
