Waterbury-Sheltonで走ってる人たちは、ロードもトレイルもレースコースも、いろんな練習ができるんだよね。ルートは39 kmで、獲得標高は+270 mだよ。Y Running Programっていうのがあって、グループで走れるんだ。平日のランはWaterbury YMCAの正面玄関、136 West Main Streetから出発するよ。日曜のランは場所を変えて、たまにレースコースを使うこともあるんだ。コーチが指導してくれるセッションでは、ロングラン、スピードワーク、ヒルトレーニング、それから速めのLevel 2ペース走なんかもやるんだよ。Oh Boy 5K、FreeFromEvil 5k Race/Walk、Soul n Body Thanksgiving Trail Run、Tom Centinaro Memorial "Dam" Raceみたいなレースがカレンダーの目玉になってるね。

Waterbury-Sheltonでのライドは、結構本格的だけど、そこまで気負う感じじゃないかな。Greater Waterbury YMCA Tri Clubっていうのがあって、マルチスポーツも単一スポーツの選手もサポートしてるし、毎週クラブで外でのライドもやってるよ。ルートは3 kmで、獲得標高は1,340 m。ほとんど舗装路だよ。そのルートは97%が舗装路で3%が未舗装だから、ちょっと負荷のあるbase milesって感じかな。登りは北方面にあって、Sheffieldの方へ北上するほどライドが楽しくなってくるんだ。39 km。

いつがベストシーズンかっていうのは特になくて、地元の人たちはクラブ活動とかレース日程、あとはその時々のフィットネス目標に合わせてシーズンを組み立ててる感じだね。夏のトレーニングはシンプルで、ランナーは平日のYMCA発のランとか、日曜のオフサイトラン、それからレースコースでのレップで調子を上げていくよ。サイクリストは舗装路でZ2を維持しつつ、gran fondoとかハードなクラブライドの前に北方面の登りで筋力強化したりしてるね。冬は、マップが変わるというより、気持ちの切り替えが大事になるかな。同じロードの周回コースやトレイルラン、ミックスサーフェスのオプションは使えるんだけど、日が短くなったりコンディションが悪くなったりすると、ランナーもサイクリストも練習を選ぶのにちょっと慎重になるんだ。
