Trail des 2 Salines 2026

The Trail des 2 Salines connects the Grande Saline of Salins-les-Bains with the Royal Saltworks at Arc-et-Senans, tracing the historic salt region of the Jura and Doubs. This autumn trail event, typically held in late September, begins near Salins-les-Bains or Port-Lesney and concludes at the Royal Saltworks. Participants can select the main Trail des 2 Salines (approximately 30 km), the 13 km Course des Gabelous, the 13 km Randonnée des Gabelous walking route, or the Relais des Gabelous, a two-person relay with 17 km and 13 km legs. The longer course primarily crosses trails through fields and forests, largely following the former brine pipeline route between the two saltworks. It winds through the Furieuse and Loue valleys, involving an ascent of about 800 metres, making it more than a simple heritage run. The 13 km Gabelous option starts in Port-Lesney, finishes at the Royal Saltworks, and includes a climb of roughly 285 metres. Established in 2016, the event aims to link running with the area's salt history, appealing to both seasoned trail runners and those seeking a shorter race or walk with a distinct local narrative.
