Finishers receive a gift from the organizers, have the option to purchase a barbecue lunch, attend prize giving, and then take a return boat to Picton. This run-and-walk festival includes a 21.1 km half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, and a 2 km kids’ run, suitable for half marathoners, families, walkers, and younger children. The main course is mostly flat and fast, with a mix of sealed road and hard-packed gravel. All courses accommodate buggies, walkers, and wheelchair athletes. The route follows the coast, passing river trails, tree-lined streets, lake loops, and the Waikanae Estuary boardwalk, with Kāpiti Island visible from parts of the area. The 5 km course stays on coastal and park trails, while longer distances use more of the mixed-surface route. Finishers receive a medal or can opt to have a tree planted in their honor. The event concludes with activities at MacLean Park, including local cafes, family gatherings, awards, and spot prizes.

Wellington hostí 7 Half Marathon pretekov v roku 2026 do 80 km od centra mesta — nadchádzajúce dátumy, opakujúce sa série a ďalšie preteky v okolí, všetko na jednom mieste.

My tu beháme po nábreží, keď chceme čisté Z2 a poctivé medzičasy, hlavne v Oriental Bay, Waitangi Parku a po rovine okolo Island Bay smerom na Lyall Bay alebo Red Rocks. Každú sobotu ráno je parkrun vo Waitangi, kde si zadarmo dáš 5k, a Honest 10 Fun Run drží latku pekne nízko, štartuješ od Freyberg Pool v Oriental Bay. WoRM sa stretáva pri soche Naked Man v utorok o 18:15 na traily na Mt Vic, v stredu o 18:15 pri Freyburg Pool a vo štvrtok o 18:30 pri Pickle Jar v Karori. Wellington Marathon a WUU2K sú také hlavné preteky, čo tu máme.

Na bicykli sa od prístavu jazdí do Hutt Valley, Petone, Eastbourne, Upper Hutt a Wainuiomata, keď chceš nabehať base miles a trochu si aj máknuť. Wellington Road Cycling Club funguje už od roku 1983, víta jazdcov od 16 rokov a drží pretekárov v kontakte s Cycling NZ. Hutt River Trail je super na také pokojné točenie nôh a Remutaka Cycle Trail má 122km od Petone foreshore až po Palliser Bay. Remutaka Rail Trail ti ponúkne asi 18km z Kaitoke do Cross Creek, cez les, tunely, takže poriadne svetlo do batohu je nutnosť. Kopce nájdeš na Paekākāriki Hill, Remutaka Range, Wainuiomata Coast a na drsnejšom graveli smerom na Maungakotukutuku. Karapoti Classic, The Crazyman a Porirua Grand Traverse sú také, čo kalendáru dodávajú ten správny šmrnc.

Od septembra do februára má Wellington najlepšie obdobie na tréning, s teplejšími dňami a dosť svetla na intervaly po práci. V lete sú okruhy okolo prístavu krásne svetlé, pobrežie je super z ktorejkoľvek strany Wellingtonu a dlhé výjazdy sa dajú ľahšie natiahnuť smerom na Greytown, Martinborough alebo Cape Palliser. Vietor ale stále rešpektujeme, lebo Wellington je veterný po celý rok. Jún a júl sú najmokrejšie mesiace, takže bežci využívajú nábrežie, Mt Vic a Tip Track, keď sa naskytne okno v počasí. Južné vetry robia zimy poriadne prímorskými a kopcovité štvrte plus Hutt Valley majú mrazy od mája do septembra. Sneh je v nižších polohách zriedkavý.
