Hisingen/Västkusten Runt
Hisingen Runt and Västkusten Runt are road cycling events based in Gothenburg, centered on Hisingen, the island north of the Göta älv river. Hisingens Cykelklubb organizes the event annually, offering three routes: Hisingens Hälsorunda (approx. 25 km), Hisingen Runt (50 km), and Västkusten Runt (approx. 125 km). The club describes it as Gothenburg’s cycling race, created by cyclists for cyclists. The routes are designed for safe riding on quality roads and cycle paths, avoiding tram lines, unpaved surfaces, and heavy vehicle traffic. Hisingen Runt started in the late 1970s with 150 participants and evolved into a larger event featuring multiple distances, a family quiz route, and a children’s race named Papricaloppet. The 50 km Hisingen Runt is now the main ride, with Västkusten Runt serving as the longer option for those seeking a more extensive cycling day. The event's starting location has varied across Gothenburg, including Björlanda, Frihamnen, and near the Gothenburg Opera, before its return to Hisingen. Hisingen Runt is also included in Göteborgsklassikern, a local challenge comprising three events: cycling, swimming, and running.
