Servus Calgary Marathon

The Servus Calgary Marathon is a road-race weekend held in May in Calgary, Alberta. It centers on a certified marathon, complemented by half marathon, 10 km, and 5 km races. As Canada's longest-running marathon, its main 42.195 km distance is certified by Athletics Canada and registered with AIMS, allowing runners to use it for qualification. Recent editions have attracted over 17,000 participants throughout the weekend, with shorter races on Saturday and the half marathon and marathon on Sunday. The finish line is at Enmax Park. Participants range from those running their first 5 km to marathoners aiming for specific standards. Canadian Olympian Doug Kyle and local runner Bill Wyllie established the race following Calgary's hosting of the Olympic marathon trials. The inaugural event saw nineteen entrants, with twelve finishers. Local clubs and volunteers sustained the race through its early years, and it later incorporated additional distances, occasional ultras, charity fundraising, and even non-alcoholic beer at official aid stations.

Hues for Humanity Calgary

Hues for Humanity Calgary is a 5K colour run or walk held in Harmony, a community west of Calgary in Rocky View County. It takes place on a Saturday morning in late May, with the event area opening before a 10:00 AM MDT start. Real Humanitarian organizes the race, and the funds raised support its education programs for at-risk children in developing nations. The course uses the trails of Harmony near Springbank Airport, making it more of a community colour event than a competitive road race. Participants begin with a mass colour toss, move through colour stations on the route, and conclude with a final group colour toss at the finish line. A DJ and MC manage the crowd engagement, and awards are given for the best costumes among individuals, families, and teams. Registration includes a t-shirt, colour packets, and a swag bag for paid participants, while children 9 and under can enter for free without a race package. The event also depends on volunteers for race bags, setup, and day-of coordination, with a fundraising target of CA$10,000.

Lake Chaparral Triathlon

The Lake Chaparral Triathlon, Calgary's longest-running multisport event, takes place at Lake Chaparral in Calgary, Alberta. It is organized by the Lake Chaparral Residents Association and offers both triathlon and duathlon races suitable for various ages and skill levels. The Tri-It and Sprint races are designed for newcomers, allowing participants with basic equipment to comfortably join the event. The race begins early, fitting for a summer day featuring an open-water swim, bike, and run. The swim is in Lake Chaparral's clear water, the bike course is smooth, and the run route winds through the Chaparral community on varied surfaces. The Standard Duathlon is also notable for competitive athletes, as it provides age-group qualifying spots for the World Multisport Championships in Edmonton and a route to join Team Canada. The event supports community fundraising, with the Calgary Canoe Club identified as a beneficiary.

Calgary Training Notes
