Sarah Beckett Memorial Run

The Sarah Beckett Memorial Run is a run/walk held in May in Langford, British Columbia, offering 3 km and 5 km routes suitable for all ages and abilities. It commemorates Cst. Sarah Beckett, an RCMP officer who died in the line of duty. The in-person event begins and ends at the Starlight Stadium plaza, located beside the Sarah Beckett Memorial Playground. Approximately 600 participants attend the event, with registration covering a finisher medal and participant insurance for the local run. Participants outside the Greater Victoria and West Shore region can opt for a virtual 5 km, which can be completed at any location. They are encouraged to share photos using #runforbeckett. Funds raised benefit BGC South Vancouver Island and the Goldstream Food Bank. Proceeds from the virtual run are directed to the National Police Foundation Benevolent Foundation.

Royal Bay Crit

It is a short-loop bike race, meaning riders pass the same streets repeatedly instead of disappearing onto a long road course. The venue is one of Victoria's newer race locations, and the event is integrated into the local cycling calendar rather than feeling like a standalone event. The course uses a loop one block south of the previous layout, keeping the racing close to Royal Bay residents and easy for spectators to follow. About The Ride Cycling Club organizes it, with Doc as sponsor, and the prize list is unusually strong for a local crit, with more than $3,500 in cash and prizes. Past results, reports, and photos are kept in the event archive, which gives the race a small but growing history in Victoria's cycling scene.

Victoria Training Notes

Løb: Lokale løbere samler nemme kilometer på Dallas Road Waterfront, Beacon Hill Park, Songhees Way og Galloping Goose Trail. Dallas Road fra Clover Point til Ogden Point breakwater giver 8 km asfalt langs kysten, og vinden kan gøre Z2 til arbejde. Songhees Way ændrer sig konstant med skibstrafikken i havnen. Rithet’s Bog, Thetis Lake Park, Mount Doug og Elk Lake Regional Park er perfekte til trail-dage og mudrede intervaller. Badass Chicks Run Trails mødes lørdag kl. 9:00 ved trailheads rundt i Victoria. Prairie Inn Harriers, Fernwood Social Run Club, Notorious Run Club og Frontrunners Victoria holder kalenderen travlt. Royal Victoria Marathon 2026 er hovedarrangementet.

Cykling: Lokale cyklister kører Galloping Goose Trail, Lochside Trail, E&N Rail Trail, Peninsula loop og Colquitz River Trail for grundlæggende kilometer. Galloping Goose og Lochside Trails strækker sig ca. 80 kilometer fra Swartz Bay færgeterminal til Sooke, stort set bilfri på asfalt eller kompakt grus. Tripleshot Cycling, Victoria Wheelers, Broad St. Cycles, Dirty Girlz Bike Club, Oak Bay Bikes Club & Racing og TNRG Cycling Club dækker vej, grus, MTB, cyclocross og crit. Victoria Wheelers starter lørdagsudkørsler kl. 9:00 fra Oak Bay Bikes. Royal Bay Crit, Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria og Munn Road Monster Climb er de store begivenheder. Munn Road, Mount Tolmie, Mount Doug, Ten Mile Point, Queenswood og Highlands holder klatringerne.

Sæson: Victoria træner året rundt, bortset fra nogle dage på grund af snefald. Forår og sommer er de reneste perioder for volumen, gran fondo-forberedelse, crit-skarphed og længere ture mod Metchosin, Matheson Lake, Sidney og Lands End. Sommeren kan stadig blive varm på vej hjem, og Dallas Road kan være meget blæsende, selv når vandet ser roligt ud. Tour de Victoria-ruten bringer Munn Road i Highlands ind i sommerdiskussionen. Vinteren er meget stille, men løbere bruger stadig Dallas Road, Beacon Hill Park, Thetis Lake Park og Elk Lake Regional Park. Cyklister kører hele året med regntøj.
