The #ZeroHungerRun is a charity running event held in Bonn’s Rheinaue park, with a virtual option available globally. It operates under Deutsche Welthungerhilfe’s Zero Hunger initiative and is in its 10th year. In Bonn, participants can select a 5 km or 10 km race, and a 400-meter Kids’ Run is offered for young children. Individuals can register alone, with friends, or as teams representing companies, NGOs, schools, and other organizations.
The Bonn course is situated in the Rheinaue, near the Japanese Garden, giving the in-person event a park atmosphere rather than a closed-off city race feel. The virtual challenge allows participants to walk, run, or cycle in their own locations, whether on treadmills, rural roads, or local parks. A recent virtual edition saw 1,738 participants globally and raised approximately 9,000 euros from initial donations for projects focused on improving access to food and clean water. The Bonn event also includes a local element with Knallblech, a brass band, performing between the 5 km and 10 km races.
